- Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences spoke about the benefits of hydrogen inhalation

Hydrogen inhalation with medical gases, especially hydrogen, has proven effective in the treatment of many diseases. Such procedures accelerate the recovery of lungs and blood vessels in patients who have suffered coronavirus, reduce the risk of thrombosis, strokes and heart attacks, Alexander Chuchalin, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and head of the Department of Hospital Therapy at the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, told Izvestia.
He clarified that molecular hydrogen is a powerful antioxidant capable of reducing oxidative stress, which destroys the body. In Japan, it is used to treat radiation sickness, oncology, and to reduce the toxicity of chemotherapy. In addition, hydrogen has recently been shown to protect the brain from neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease.
In Russia, the academician complemented the Japanese experience by combining hydrogen with a helium-oxygen mixture and nitrogen oxide. This "triple" therapy has helped patients with covoid syndrome to restore vascular elasticity and improve blood supply to organs, explained Chuchalin. A study involving 60 doctors who had covid showed that hydrogen inhalation increases exercise tolerance, eliminates latent hypoxemia and improves the condition of the endothelium, the scientist said.
"Inhaled molecular hydrogen therapy in the rehabilitation program of COVID-19 patients has proven to be a safe and highly effective therapeutic method during the recovery period," he said.
As the academician explained, hydrogen is effective in endocrine disorders (for example, obesity), cardiovascular, respiratory and neurodegenerative diseases. In addition to inhalations, hydrogen water, baths and applications are used. Baths help with psoriasis, arthritis and osteoarthritis, and applications help with poorly healing wounds in diabetics. Therefore, hydrogen is widely used in sanatoriums for health improvement and rehabilitation.
Earlier, on May 4, Olga Shuppo, founder and scientific director of the Grand Clinic network of immunorehabilitation, adaptive and preventive medicine clinics, told Izvestia that a healthy lifestyle can prolong a person's life. At the same time, changes should begin with the transition to a balanced diet. Physical activity in the fresh air is also important.
