Experts named the reasons for the Russians' refusal of the car

The lack of convenient and affordable parking changes life scenarios, from refusing to buy a parking space to being ready to switch to public transport. This is stated in a study by the development company SK10, which was reviewed by Izvestia on May 10.
Despite the high level of motorization of the population, the lack of underground parking is becoming a serious problem for Russians. According to the study, 39.4% of respondents have one car, 27.8% have two, and 32.8% have more than two. However, the infrastructure is not keeping up with demand: 53.3% of respondents said that their homes do not have underground parking.
In addition, only 17.8% of car owners have their own parking space, experts say. At the same time, 23.3% would like to purchase it, but consider the cost too high, and only 5.6% are seriously planning such a purchase.
Those who park in courtyards face a number of difficulties. The main reason is the lack of available seats in the evening (28.9%). Citizens are also concerned about the lack of security and cameras (15.6%), damage to cars (6.7%) and the lack of awnings (9.4%). Almost 40% of the respondents admitted that they experience all these problems at the same time.
Due to difficulties with parking, some car owners are ready to abandon personal transport: 13.9% are considering carsharing, and 27.8% are switching to public transport. Nevertheless, 58.3% of respondents are not ready to part with the car, despite the inconvenience.
"The availability of underground parking remains one of the weighty arguments in favor of new residential complexes. Comfortable and safe parking is no longer perceived by the buyer as a privilege, but as a basic need. Modern parking lots are equipped with smart access systems with number recognition, video surveillance, convenient navigation, service points and charging points," said Sergey Kisterev, head of the commercial product department at the SK10 development company.
Earlier, on January 29, it was reported that the average cost of a parking space in the capital increased by 6.1% over the year and reached 3.65 million rubles. According to analysts, 13,052 parking spaces were represented in the primary market of "old" Moscow by the end of 2024. Over the year, the supply volume increased by 6.2%. There are 3,528 lots for sale in the mass segment, 7,713 lots in the business class, 1,295 lots in the premium class, and 517 lots in the elite segment (excluding closed sales).
