The UN Secretariat can hardly be considered as an honest broker in the framework of the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was announced on May 6 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"In these circumstances, the secretariat can hardly be considered as an honest broker in the process of resolving the Ukrainian crisis. Once again, we urge the United Nations to abandon its biased course, stop acting as a mouthpiece for Western propaganda, and take an appropriate neutral position," she said.

According to her, the UN representatives did not comment on "any atrocities," even those that were proven by the Kiev regime. They constantly appeal to the parties to the conflict to exercise restraint and conduct independent investigations. However, according to Zakharova, when it comes to Russia, the UN immediately provides fake data, for example, figures.

"But these very violations of international humanitarian law, I would add unprecedented, are obvious to all unbiased experts and observers, such a line based on double standards causes only indignation and rejection," she said.

Zakharova believes that the actions of the UN secretariat demonstrate violations of the provisions of the charter of this supranational organization. According to it, UN staff should have equidistant positions on all issues. They should not speak one-sidedly. Zakharova also called on the United Nations to return to its official duties.

On the same day, the newspaper O Globo, citing government sources, reported that the administration of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva wants to replace the United States and become a mediator in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. According to the Brazilian authorities, Washington has not fulfilled the promises it had previously made to resolve the situation.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on March 5 that the UN Charter is a criterion of equality and justice in the world, but few Western countries observe it. According to him, the new centers of power, which are involved in reaching agreements on the future, should be based on "non-interference in internal affairs, the right of peoples to self-determination, territorial integrity and human rights."
