Eternal Flame lit at 80 memorials in Russia as part of the "Keep the Victory Flame" campaign

On the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Eternal Lights were lit at 80 memorials of military glory throughout the country. Footage from the event at the St. Petersburg memorial to the fallen soldiers "Cranes" in the framework of the campaign "We keep the Victory Flame" is published by Izvestia on May 6.

"Today, 80 eternal lights were lit simultaneously throughout the Russian Federation in memory of great people, twice winners. Those who won that war, and then returned, wounded and tired, and accomplished their second feat, making our country a great power with their labor. We are proud of our heroes, and today eternal lights are lit in their honor, museums, places of memory and glory are being opened," said Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev.

According to the minister, today the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of WWII veterans are just as winning on the fronts and working just as hard to make Russia great.

"A blessed memory to all those who passed away, but left a worthy mark and an immortal memory for all time," added Tsivilev.

The campaign "Keeping the Victory Flame Alive" started on February 21, 2025 in the village of Maima in the Altai Republic. From this day on, new Eternal Lights are connected to the natural gas grid on a weekly basis. In total, more than 130 Eternal Lights will be switched to mains natural gas by Victory Day. The campaign is being implemented by Gazprom Mezhregiongaz PJSC jointly with United Russia on the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Earlier, on April 30, Putin said that Victory Day is a special holiday for the whole of Russia. According to the President, the participants of the Great Patriotic War and the defenders of the Motherland accomplished and still continue to accomplish the feat. The Head of State stressed that it is possible to correctly determine the future of the Russian Federation only if one understands the price of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
