The military personnel of the Center group of forces told about the exploits of their ancestors during the Great Patriotic War (WWII). They shared these stories on May 6 with a correspondent of Izvestia.

The grandfather of Dmitry Kozyryalov, a participant in the special military operation, Nikolai Amelin, was captured by the Nazis as a child during the Great Patriotic War in 1943, along with his mother and sister.

"He lived in the Orel region, they were taken to Germany. He spent a year in captivity. The adults were shot, and the children were like donors for the German soldiers. They took blood from them for a year. He was ten years old. They spent a year in captivity, then they dug holes for themselves, it was May 1944, and our soldiers freed them," Dmitry said.

Nikolai Amelin died in 2000, when his grandson Dmitry was only two years old. Dmitry honors the memory of his grandfather, along with his photo, he takes part in a special operation and performs combat missions.

"A sense of pride for my grandfather, for the fact that I am at least a little bit, but I continue what I started: to finish off the fascists," said the participant of the SVO.

The grandfather of Sergei Fattakhov, a participant in the special operation, was drafted into Bashkiria in 1941 and fought near Kursk under the command of General Vatutin.

"They still gave their lives, many fought for the country, for the people, the same as we are here now," Sergei said.

The grandfather of Andrei Bulatov's squad commander, Yakov Pirozhkov, was drafted in 1942 at the age of 18. After graduation, he immediately fell under Stalingrad, where he took part in the liberation of Ukraine, Poland, and Germany on the Katusha and took Berlin.

"My grandfather never told me anything about the war. He always smiled and said, "Yes, I fought," said Andrei Bulatov.

Bulatov has been participating in the SVO since 2024, his first trip was on February 2 to Avdiivka.

"Why am I here? Because Grandfather didn't finish his job a little bit. Secondly, my parents are military personnel, both have ranks. For me, it's a matter of pride that my grandfather is heroic, and a great responsibility not to bring shame to his deeds. I keep thinking about my grandfather. Sometimes, when you arrive at a point, while working, you think: "Maybe my grandfather also launched his rockets from this place, where are we launching them now?" said Bulatov.

The grandfather of Rustam Khairullin, a member of the SVO, Fatkulbayan Murtazin, was a sapper and engaged in mine clearance during the Great Patriotic War.

"I was born in 1908, I was drafted from Bashkiria, the city of Ufa," said Rustam Khairullin.

Photographs of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War adorn combat vehicles that smash the positions of Ukrainian militants in the SVR zone. The servicemen note that in this way they want to show the connection and continuity of generations.

On May 5, the participants of the SVO talked about the preparations for the Victory Day Parade in Moscow. Hero of Russia Vyacheslav Potyshev stressed that participation in the parade was a real shock for him — he could not believe that he would be able to walk through Red Square.
