A criminal case has been opened in St. Petersburg on causing death by negligence after a fire in a high-rise building in the Kirovsky district of the city. Two of the three victims died in the hospital, the GSU TFR in the Northern Capital reported in its Telegram channel.

The fire occurred the night before, on May 5, in one of the apartments of a multi-storey building on Veterans Avenue. Three people were injured and hospitalized.

"Later, a man and a woman died, and the third victim is in hospital in serious condition," the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

According to the 78 TV channel, a man who tried to save his family remains in intensive care. He suffered burns, and his condition is assessed as serious. The wife and son of the father of the family died in intensive care.

In connection with the incident, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Causing death by negligence to two persons." All the circumstances of the tragedy are being established.

On May 4, Izvestia, citing a source, reported that a fire broke out in Syktyvkar (Komi Republic) in a country house on the territory of the Horizon farm. As a result, three people died.
