- The head of the CDU/CSU announced the second round of German Chancellor elections on May 6.

The second round of voting for the German Chancellor's election will be held in the Bundestag on Tuesday, May 6. This was announced by the head of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) faction, Jens Spahn.
According to him, the voting will take place at 15:15 local time (16:15 Moscow time).
"The whole of Europe, and perhaps the whole world, is watching these elections. I urge everyone to realize this special responsibility," NTV quoted him as saying.
According to them, the co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Lars Klingbeil, confirmed the holding of the second round. It is clarified that the CDU/CSU, SPD, Greens and Leftists together demanded a tour on Tuesday.
The Bild newspaper, in turn, clarified that the SPD and CDU/CSU had convened deputies for a meeting of parliamentary groups before the new round of elections.

Earlier in the day, CDU/CSU bloc Friedrich Merz did not get enough votes to be elected Chancellor of Germany in the first round. 310 members of parliament voted for his candidacy, 307 voted against, and three more abstained.
Bild later reported that Merz had decided against holding a second round of the chancellor's election on May 6. This information was also confirmed by CDU Secretary General Carsten Linnemann.
Alice Weidel, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, in turn, called on Merz to resign and call new elections. According to the politician, the electoral failure showed how fragile the formed coalition of the future new government of the CDU/CSU and the SPD is.
