The Kremlin has promised to respond if Kiev violates the May truce.
Russia will give an adequate response if Ukraine starts attacking Russian positions or facilities during the truce announced in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This was announced on May 6 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"Here I want to remind you of our position: the fire will cease, but if there is no reciprocity from the Kiev regime and attempts to attack our positions or our facilities continue, an adequate response will be given immediately," he said.
Peskov added that Moscow has not yet received statements from Kiev about its readiness to join the festive truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to the Kremlin's official representative, Putin's initiative for a truce remains relevant, and relevant instructions have been passed to the military command.
On April 28, Putin declared a truce in the days of the 80th anniversary of the Victory. It was specified that the Russian side, for its part, would ensure a cease-fire at 00:00 from 7 to 8 May to 00:00 from 10 to 11 May. Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that by declaring a truce during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory, Russia is sending an important signal to other states.
On May 5, US President Donald Trump praised the Russian leader's decision to declare a three-day truce. He called it a significant step, given the initial conditions when starting work on resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
