- The Ministry of Agriculture reported an increase in the production of butter and milk
The production of milk, butter and ice cream has increased in Russia, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported on May 6.
In the first quarter of this year, domestic enterprises produced over 1.5 million tons of drinking milk, which is 3.7% more than in the same period of 2024.
In the period from January to March, 83.3 thousand tons of butter were produced, which is 4.3% more than last year. It also produced 121.8 thousand tons of cottage cheese (+2.5%), 124.9 thousand tons of ice cream (+2.1%) and 202.1 thousand tons of yogurt (+2.5%). The volume of milk powder and cream production amounted to 49.2 thousand tons, an increase of 19.5%.
The dairy industry continues to be one of the most supported in the Russian agro-industrial complex. Last year, over 80 billion rubles were allocated from the federal budget for its development. Processors have access to preferential short-term and investment loans, as well as to reimbursement of part of the processing costs and other support measures.
According to Artyom Belov, General Director of the National Union of Milk Producers (Soyuzmoloko), the increase in dairy production is due to an increase in demand against the background of an increase in real disposable incomes of the population. Industry representatives predict faster growth rates in demand and, consequently, in the volume of finished products by the end of 2025.
Earlier, on February 12, the Ministry of Agriculture reported an increase in the production of vegetable oils. It was noted that in 2024, domestic producers produced more than 10.4 million tons of vegetable oils, which is 6.9% more than the level of the previous year.
