The loss of Friedrich Merz, the leader of the alliance of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), in the first round of elections for the post of Chancellor of Germany does not mean that even anti-Russian politicians do not find support in their own coalition. This was announced on May 6 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov at a briefing.

"No, we don't see it, we don't count it. That's the answer," he said, answering a question about whether Merz's defeat indicates the low popularity of anti—Russian politicians in Germany, even within their own blocs.
