In the Russian market, the share of Chinese cars that have been involved in road accidents has increased from 2% to 17.2% over the past 3.5 years. This happened against the background of a decrease in the share of other brands, including Korean and European. This was reported to Izvestia on May 6 by Migtorg experts, who analyzed more than 30 thousand cars that passed through their auction after serious accidents.

So, if in 2022 the share of Chinese cars involved in accidents in the Russian market was 2%, then a year later it increased to 4.1%. In 2024, it was 11.2%, and by 2025 it had grown to 17.2%. During the same time, the share of Japanese cars decreased from 32% to 20.3%, Korean — from 11.5% to 8.2%, and European — from 33.9% to 29.2%.

According to experts, over time, Chinese cars have significantly improved their design, and the damage they receive in accidents has become more predictable and less dangerous.

"Unlike older Chinese models, which often "fell apart" after an accident, new Chinese-made cars show significant progress in safety. Modern models are equipped with programmed damage zones, an improved safety framework and other engineering solutions that increase the level of passive safety," the company noted.

Using the example of electric vehicles of the Voyah, Lixiang and Zeekr brands, experts also stated that they had not recorded a surge in fires after an accident involving them. However, even minor damage to electric cars can lead to their recognition by insurance companies as total, which leads to the sale of such cars for spare parts, they said.

On April 30, it was reported that the opening of the first official dealership of the Chinese brand Li Auto (Lixiang) in Russia will take place before the end of May. Sinomach Auto has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Lixiang (Li Auto). Three models will enter the market — the L6, L7 and L9 crossovers.

Prior to that, on April 29, it became known that the Rolf group of companies had signed an agreement with the Chinese auto brand Zeekr, having received the status of the first official service distributor of the brand in the Russian market.
