India has suspended the flow of water through the Baglihar and Salal dams on the Chinab River, resulting in water shortages in Pakistan. This was reported on May 6 by the Times of India newspaper.
"Since Sunday, authorities have restricted flows through the Baglihar and Salal hydroelectric dams in Jammu on the Chenab River, which flows into Pakistan, which has led to an unprecedented drop in water levels," the material says.
The publication noted that this measure was due to the decision of the authorities to suspend the Indian Water Treaty after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. According to the newspaper's source, India has closed all five main gates of the Baglihar Dam and the gates of the Salal dam downstream.
Relations between India and Pakistan have worsened after the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 27 civilians. Both countries have closed the only common open land border and suspended visas. New Delhi has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russia is following the conflict between India and Pakistan with great concern.
