- Izvestia published a reprint of the historical issue of the newspaper dated May 9, 1945

In connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), Izvestia printed the May 9, 1945 issue of the newspaper. On May 6, a correspondent for Izvestia reported on the transfer of copies to museums across the country.
The pages of the issue contain the news of the Victory, as well as the order of the Supreme Commander, congratulations and poems. The newspaper has already been received by the military of the consolidated detachment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Zaporozhye, and the issue has also been delivered to the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR). In addition, participants of the Victory Day Parade on Red Square on May 9 will receive the newspaper. This issue travels around Russia on the Victory train
The soldier with the call sign Stary shared that his grandfather served from the very beginning of the war and was wounded during the fighting, and his grandmother was in a German concentration camp liberated in 1945.
"We won! In these two words, our reward is for sweat and blood and torment. For the severity of the years, for the childish moaning and fear, for the bitterness of wounds and for the sadness of separation. In this bright hour, let's remember those who laid down their souls for us," Sergei Koroteev, editor—in-chief of the Izvestia newspaper, read out the lines of Vasily Lebedev-Kumach's poem.
With these lines, the war ended, and began with Lebedev-Kumach's work "The Holy War." The immortal lines were first published in Izvestia two days after the German attack on the USSR.
Despite the change in technology, today the newspaper is published in the same quality as it was 80 years ago. In 1945, in conditions of scarcity, the main news was printed on paper in red. Andrey Malakhov, the commercial director of the printing house, noted that it was worth a lot.
At the same time, the issue contains only one photo, namely an image of Red Army soldiers in Berlin on a tank, which was captured by Izvestia correspondent Georgy Samsonov.
"On it (the front. — Ed.) our Leonid Kudrevatykh was present. He describes emotions, describes feelings, describes the condition of the signatories from Germany, yes. That Keitel's jaw was shaking, that he was very nervous, didn't know where to put his hands," said Tatiana Kireeva, editor of the Izvestia newspaper archive.
Nina Proletaeva, who worked as a postman during the war years, also received a reprint. In addition, the newspaper was presented in the Lenin Library. Tamara Ivanova admitted that her family kept at home a large number of artifacts and things related to the war, but not newspapers.
On May 6, a concert dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held at the UN headquarters in New York, where the Turkish Choir and the SOPRANO art group performed wartime songs. The event was also attended by veterans, high-profile diplomats from different countries and staff of the UN secretariat.
