Police officers in the Bryansk region, together with employees of the regional Department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia, detained four local residents of the region who provided the operation of illegal communication hubs for the activities of fraudsters. This was announced on May 6 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

According to preliminary data, the attackers maintained special equipment for several months under the guidance of anonymous supervisors.

"It was used to forward calls with the substitution of subscriber numbers. This allowed telephone scammers from abroad to steal funds from citizens of the Russian Federation," Volk said in her Telegram channel.

The defendants received electronic devices and SIM cards through courier delivery. For their work, foreign accomplices paid them remuneration in cryptocurrency.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Unlawful access to computer information"). Four SIM boxes, more than 7,000 SIM cards from various telecom operators, over 50 mobile phones, computer equipment, bank cards and other physical evidence were seized from the fraudsters' homes.

The day before, 10 Russians who helped ensure the operation of fraudulent call centers were detained. They monitored the operation of the SIM boxes, with which the scammers called and sent false messages en masse, intending to cause panic. A criminal case has been opened against the defendants under Parts 1 and 2 of Articles 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Creation and participation in a criminal community"), as well as Part 5 of Articles 33 and Part 3 of Article 207 of the Criminal Code ("Complicity in knowingly false reporting of an act of terrorism").
