The US Treasury Department revealed Trump's plans for a deal with Ukraine

US President Donald Trump was going to use the natural resources deal with Ukraine to influence Russia during negotiations to resolve the conflict. This was announced on May 6 by the American Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.
"The idea was to sign an agreement that would show that there are no differences between the United States and the Ukrainian people," he said during a dialogue with American financier Michael Milken at a Milken Institute conference in California, which was broadcast on YouTube.
According to Bessent, Trump believed that the economic partnership would lead to several results, including the creation of leverage over the Russian Federation and the country's leadership. Bessent said that, among other things, the agreement could become a mute guarantee of security for Kiev.
On May 1, the Correspondent reported that Washington and Kiev had signed an agreement on natural resources. In addition, the countries have concluded a deal on the creation of an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine. The next day, Marjorie Taylor Green, a member of the US House of Representatives, a Republican from Georgia, said that the US-Ukrainian deal could lead to a new armed conflict.
The Washington Post newspaper, in turn, reported that American experts criticized the agreement on mineral resources. According to the material, there will be problems with its implementation. At the same time, it was clarified that Washington would be able to benefit from the supply of resources in at least 10 years.
