Columbia University named the winners of the Pulitzer Prize in Journalism


The ceremony of announcing the winners of the Pulitzer Prize in Journalism took place at Columbia University. This was announced on the event's website on May 6.
The award for outstanding presentation of sensational material was given to the American newspaper The Washington Post "for its quick and vivid elaboration of the attempted assassination of US President Donald Trump on July 13, 2024." The publication also received an award for illustrated reports and commentary.
The Reuters News Agency won the award for outstanding investigative reporting. The award was given for exposing lax regulation in the United States and abroad of legislation that makes fentanyl inexpensive and widely available to consumers.
In turn, The New York Times took away several awards at once, including for excellence (a study of the US failure in Afghanistan), international reporting ("A revealing investigation into the conflict in Sudan"), news photography (a series of photographs of the assassination attempt on Trump).
The Wall Street Journal newspaper was awarded an award for revealing a national topic, namely for chronicling the changes in the political activities of American entrepreneur and head of the Department of U.S. Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk. It is noted that the material also touched upon his personal conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The New Yorker won an award for its images from Sednaya prison in Syria, where Assad's opponents were tortured.
On March 27, the annual solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the main prize of the Union of Journalists of Russia "Golden Pen" took place. 73 journalists were awarded on the stage of the event. Among the laureates are Olga Kuzmina, a columnist for Evening Moscow, Mikhail Bryzgalov, an author and host of Orpheus Radio, Timur Medzhidov, head of the ITAR—TASS special projects department, David Narmania, a columnist for the Rossiya Segodnya international news agency, Alexey Ovchinnikov, a correspondent for Komsomolskaya Pravda publishing house, and others.
