On the eve of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WWII), military personnel of the Novosibirsk Missile Formation organized a solemn action in the Gvardeysky microdistrict of Novosibirsk, during which they congratulated veterans on the holiday.

During the event, the military prepared a concert program in which songs of the war years were performed, and military children read poems dedicated to the feat of soldiers and home front workers during the Great Patriotic War.

In addition, during the congratulations, veterans and residents of besieged Leningrad were presented with lamps with eternal flame, which were taken from the Grave of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow. Tatiana Klevakina, a resident of besieged Leningrad, said it was a great honor for her to receive such a gift. According to her, the lamp will become a memory of the indomitable faith in victory.

"We, the generation of winners, see that our memory is alive. These young guys, military personnel, remember and honor what we have done for the country. Thank them very much for this," said Lyudmila Rumyantseva, a resident of besieged Leningrad.

Guard Colonel Sergei Cheskidov, in turn, noted that people should remember the exploits performed by veterans in order to prevent a repeat of the tragedy of the past.

On May 5, Mikhail Degtyarev, head of the department and President of the Russian Olympic Committee, held a gala dinner dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the Elizabethan Hall of the Russian Ministry of Sports. Veterans of sports, home front workers, children of war, as well as modern defenders of the Fatherland were invited to the meeting.
