- The chairman of the DOMOV Slota party called the sanctions against Russia harmful for Slovakia

The adoption of anti-Russian sanctions by Slovakia may damage the country's economy and its fellow citizens, so activists of the DOMOV party handed over to President Peter Pellegrini a petition to hold a referendum to lift restrictions against Russia. This was announced on May 5 in an interview with Izvestia by the chairman of the party, Slovak activist Pavol Slota.
"Today we have collected almost 400,000 signatures to create a referendum on whether Slovaks agree not to impose sanctions on Russia, because these sanctions are dangerous for our economy, for our people, workers and employers," the activist said.
He noted that the referendum is the main instrument of democracy, but it does not force the president of the country to make decisions. The Chairman noted that no head of state would go against the will of the people, and the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, in turn, would contribute to improving relations between Slovakia and the Russian Federation.
In addition, the leader of the Slovak Renaissance Movement, Robert Shvets, said that such an initiative is successful for Slovakia, as it will help the country to continue cooperation with Russia.
The newspaper Konzervatívny denník Postoj reported on May 5 that the Office of the President of Slovakia received a petition from citizens of the country asking them to hold a referendum on the topic of lifting sanctions against Russia. The referendum is supposed to ask the question: "Do you agree that the Slovak Republic should not apply sanctions against the Russian Federation, which harm Slovak citizens, merchants and entrepreneurs?"
