Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on May 5 that he had come into conflict with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky because of the threat in his statements.

He clarified that in the words of the Ukrainian leader, he saw an undisguised danger associated with the Hungarian poll on Kiev's admission to the European Union, she added."Газета.Ru ".

"In international politics, this can only be interpreted as a serious threat, and Hungarians cannot be threatened, and we cannot tolerate such threats," Orban said in a video posted on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter), explaining his decision to enter into an open conflict.

On May 4, Orban said that Hungary's position on Ukraine's accession to the European Union would depend on the opinion of the Hungarian people, and not be determined by Kiev politicians. Thus, he responded to Zelensky, who condemned the prime minister's blocking of the Ukrainian side's membership in the EU, calling his actions "extremely dangerous" for the bloc.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on March 10 that the Hungarian government still considers Ukraine's accession to the EU dangerous, but is ready to represent any position of its citizens on this issue in the international arena.

Zelensky signed an application for the country's accession to the EU in February 2022. In April of the same year, the Ukrainian side submitted to the union the completed second part of the questionnaire for obtaining candidate status.
