Experts have warned of an increase in cases of travel fraud

During the May holidays, the number of fraud cases related to the purchase of tourist vouchers or fake airline tickets is increasing. Attackers use situational phishing and create fake websites of airlines and ticket marketplaces, promising lucrative offers, follows from VTB data, which was reviewed by Izvestia on May 6.
Scammers actively advertise fake websites on the Internet, luring users with offers of "favorable" prices for flights and tours. When a gullible person clicks on a link and leaves personal data and bank card information for making a purchase, the scammers receive payment and send a confirmation of the purchase. However, at the airport, the victims discover that their tickets are invalid.
Experts clarified that travelers should be alerted to: low prices for an air ticket or a tourist package; unofficial sources, such as links from letters or messages from messengers; the urgency of the offer — fraudsters often offer "last tickets" or report a "limited offer."
Earlier, on May 1, Sberbank, Postbank, Renaissance Bank and Zenit Bank told Izvestia that calls on behalf of law enforcement agencies would remain the most popular deception scheme during the May holidays. The victim may be intimidated by the fact that her bank details were allegedly used to support banned organizations, which can lead to imprisonment under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
