Victory Day Parade on May 9: what kind of military equipment will there be

The Victory Day Parade on Red Square in Moscow will start on May 9, 2025 at exactly 10:00 a.m. and will last about two hours. The program of the event traditionally includes several key parts: the ceremonial formation of troops, the greeting of the President of Russia and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the march of foot columns representing various branches of the armed forces, and the demonstration of military equipment. If the sky is clear on the day of the holiday, the event can be completed with a spectacular aerial flight.

The detailed program of the parade has not yet been disclosed. However, it is known that this year both classic models of military equipment and the latest models will be presented on Red Square. Among the equipment that will be demonstrated in the heart of the capital, Tiger-M armored vehicles, Iskander-M missile systems, S-400 air defense systems, Yars strategic missile systems, as well as wheeled armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles are expected.

It is also assumed that viewers will be able to see new equipment successfully used in the special military operation zone. This may be an upgraded Pantsir-SMD-E anti-aircraft missile and cannon system, as well as Rapira-2 and Rapira-3 UAV detection and destruction systems.

The main intrigue that has not yet been revealed during the rehearsals is whether the mobile launcher of the Oreshnik medium—range ballistic missile will be demonstrated on Red Square.

In addition, for the first time, captured samples of Western equipment, which were specially brought to Moscow from the war zone, can be presented at the parade. Among them are American Abrams tanks, German Leopard 2, International MaxxPro Plus and M113 armored personnel carriers, as well as the M1150 Assault Breacher Vehicle assault engineering vehicle.

The parade will not be complete without the legendary T-34 tanks, the symbol of the Great Patriotic War, as well as modern tanks and artillery systems, including the Malva and Hyacinth self—propelled guns. An impressive addition will be unmanned aerial vehicles: Lancet attack UAVs, Orlan-10 reconnaissance complexes and powerful Geranium attack drones, which have already proven themselves in combat conditions.

Victory Day Parade – 2025: which troops will march through Red Square

On the day of the holiday, Red Square will be decorated with foot columns and military formations of various branches of the Russian Armed Forces, including motorized rifle and tank units, artillery, air defense units, engineering troops, communications troops and military personnel of the airborne forces, marines and special forces.

Cadets from Suvorov, Nakhimov, cadet and music schools, yunarmeyts, female servicemen and Cossacks will also take part in the parade.

A special place will be occupied by units that distinguished themselves during a special military operation, as well as military personnel awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

The solemn historical part of the parade will be dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory and will include marching columns with battle flags, small arms and equipment from the Great Patriotic War, as well as a demonstration of historical military equipment.

Will there be an aerial part of the parade in Moscow: which aircraft is participating

According to the forecast, flight and meteorological conditions in Moscow will allow the aerial part of the Victory Day Parade to be held on May 9. This was announced by Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center.

The rehearsals took place in early May, at which time various combat aircraft and helicopters, which traditionally participate in the parade, could be seen flying over the capital. The aviation group includes Su—30SM, MiG-29SMT, Su-25BM fighters, as well as the Russian Knights aerobatic teams on the Su-30SM and Strizhi on the MiG-29.

In addition, Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers, Il-78 tanker aircraft, Il-76 military transport aircraft, Mi-28 and Mi-35 attack helicopters, as well as other modern aviation models are expected to fly.

Planes and helicopters will pass at an altitude of 180 to 550 m at a speed of up to 550 km/h, masterfully lining up in parade formations. The flight of aircraft can be observed from various points in Moscow — from Leningradskoye Highway and Tverskaya Street to Gorky Park, Vorobyovy Gory and Kremlevskaya Embankment.
