Two IL-76 aircraft were involved in extinguishing a fire in the Trans-Baikal Territory

Two IL-76 aircraft are extinguishing fires in the vicinity of the village of Ukurik in the Trans-Baikal Territory. This was announced on May 5 by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

"In two days, the aircraft took off 10 times and dumped 420 tons of water," the department's Telegram channel says.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that currently more than 314.3 thousand hectares are affected by fire in Transbaikalia. Of the 29 fires, 12 have already been localized on an area of 236.7 thousand hectares.

Fiery response: the number of forest fires has increased tenfold in Russia

A state of emergency has been introduced in three regions.

On April 28, investigators in Transbaikalia opened three criminal cases on negligence that led to the development of forest fires. Later, law enforcement agencies detained a suspect in an arson attack that burned down 100 hectares of forest in the Trans-Baikal Territory.

On April 7, the Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, declared an emergency regime in the region due to forest fires. According to him, almost all fires in forests since the beginning of the year have been caused by humans.
