Approximately 500 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, which is considered one of the main shrines of Islam. The Palestinian WAFA news agency reported this on May 5.

"On Monday, the colonists stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied Jerusalem under the protection of the Israeli occupation police," the publication says.

According to the agency, Israeli citizens walked through the mosque and performed religious rituals.

Earlier, on April 17, the leader of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Khalil al-Haya, announced his readiness for immediate negotiations with the Israeli side on a cease-fire and the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners. At the same time, he called Tel Aviv's demands for the disarmament of radicals impossible.

In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on April 19 that his country would not stop the war in the Gaza Strip until it destroyed Hamas and returned all the hostages. He believes that the radical movement demands an end to the war, the preservation of its power and the restoration of Gaza with the involvement of capital, which will allow it to rearm and prepare new attacks on Israelis in the future.
