The fall in the Moscow Exchange index is due to the lack of positive signals for growth, as well as increased geopolitical tensions and sanctions pressure, Natalia Pyrieva, a leading analyst at Cifra Broker, told Izvestia on May 5.

"There is no expected improvement in relations with the United States yet, moreover, the situation is deteriorating — Donald Trump does not rule out new sanctions, and Europe is preparing another restrictive package. An additional pressure factor was the decline in oil prices due to OPEC+'s plans to increase production," she said.

According to the expert, the main drivers of negativity remain geopolitics and sanctions.

"Most likely, the pressure will increase due to the expansion of restrictions against Russian companies and individuals," she said.

According to the expert, growth is possible only with the appearance of specific positive factors — agreements with the United States, softening of the Central Bank's rhetoric or signals of a reversal of monetary policy.

Earlier, on April 3, Natalia Vashchelyuk, senior analyst at the First Management Company, told Izvestia about current financial instruments. According to her, investments in foreign exchange instruments, such as cash and foreign currency deposits, remain relevant.
