Bundestag deputies from the Left Party, the Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Greens consider it necessary to stop state funding for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party against the background of the party's recognition as extremist. This was reported on May 5 by the Tagesspiegel newspaper.

"Democracy should not allow itself to finance its own liquidation with funds from the state treasury," said Clara Buenger, a member of the Left Party.

Marcel Emmerich, a member of the Green Party, expressed the opinion that the termination of state support for AFD could be "one of the options for sanctions." In turn, CSU MP Joachim Herrmann called on the Bundestag to begin considering the issue of termination of funding as soon as possible.

It is specified that the AfG will also lose tax benefits in case of withdrawal of state funding.

On May 2, it became known that the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Germany classified the AfD as a right-wing extremist organization threatening democracy in the country. According to the authorities, this step reduces the obstacles to monitoring the party with the help of special services and allows for better control of its activities.

In turn, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov called the attacks on the AFD a sign of the beginning of the self-destruction of the state.
