Trump declined to provide details of the talks with Putin.

US President Donald Trump abruptly cut off reporters when asked how his talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin were progressing. Correspondents of The Wall Street newspaper tried to find out the details of the situation on board his plane on May 4.
Trump noted that the reporters of this publication have recently been behaving very incorrectly with representatives of the White House.
"That's what I [will say]. You people are treating us so badly. The Wall Street Journal really went to hell. It's a rotten newspaper. <...> Negotiations are underway, but I don't want to talk to The Wall Street Journal. You're working for China," Trump said. The transcript of the conversation was published on May 5 on the Forth News portal.
Meanwhile, he also noted that he had had "very good conversations" on the topic of the Ukrainian conflict, told where he plans to visit in the near future, and a personal meeting with the Russian leader could take place.
Also on May 4, in an interview with NBC News, the American leader noted that the heads of European states had asked him to call the Russian president to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, Putin did not respond to calls from EU leaders.
Prior to that, on April 29, Trump said that it was easier to deal with Putin than with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. He clarified that he was trying to end the conflict, but Ukraine wanted more weapons and security guarantees from the United States.
On April 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that negotiations with the United States on the conflict in Ukraine were moving in the right direction. He recalled that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among other things, expressed the opinion that during the negotiations Washington better understood Moscow's position, as well as the underlying causes of the conflict.
