Russia is making active efforts to achieve mutual understanding between the Palestinian factions. Mahmoud al-Habbash, adviser to the President of Palestine, told TASS on May 5.

"Russia has hosted several meetings of the Palestinian factions with the aim of dialogue, reconciliation and ending the split. However, these efforts have always been hampered by the intransigent position of [the Palestinian radical movement] Hamas and its rejection of national unity," Khabbash said.

According to the adviser, Russia has an understanding of the national foundations of Palestinian reconciliation, and Moscow continues to make every effort to achieve mutual understanding between the factions on the right foundations.

Khabbash added that Russia understands the need to unite the Palestinians in order to achieve the highest interests of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian president also intends to attend the Victory Day parade.

Earlier, on April 29, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal spoke about the agenda of talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. According to Nofal, at the meeting, the leaders will discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip, Jerusalem and the West Bank, the ongoing Israeli attacks and the humanitarian situation.
