Russian Ambassador Nozdryov warned Japan about the consequences in the event of a nuclear conflict

In the event of a nuclear conflict in the region, Japan will be among the first victims of US geopolitical games. This was announced on Monday, May 5, by Nikolai Nozdryov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Japan.

"Unfortunately, the administration of [Japanese] Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba fully supports the approaches of its main ally to the issue of strategic security, not realizing that if it comes to the implementation of American scenarios of nuclear conflict, Japan will inevitably become one of the first victims of Washington's dangerous geopolitical games," he said in an interview with TASS.

Nozdryov pointed out that Tokyo is putting itself in danger by becoming more involved in a policy of expanded deterrence that involves American nuclear weapons.

The diplomat also warned that the Russian side is monitoring data on Washington's alleged planned deployment of missiles in Japan. Nozdryov noted that if the island state continues to be active near the eastern borders with the Russian Federation with the participation of the Armed Forces of the United States and other NATO countries, Russia will be forced to take retaliatory measures.

Earlier, on April 24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow had repeatedly told Japan that Tokyo's participation in experiments with Russia's sovereign assets would be considered complicity in theft. According to her, such actions will have negative consequences in relations between the countries, such a step is unacceptable neither by legal nor by universal human concepts.
