In Rostov-on-Don, representatives of the Southern Military District congratulated WWII veterans on Victory Day

In Rostov-on-Don, representatives of the command of the Southern Military District (SE) solemnly congratulated veterans of the Great Patriotic War (WWII) on Victory Day. This was announced on Monday, May 5, by the press service of the Southern Military District.

It is specified that the artists of the Song and Dance Ensemble and the musicians of the military orchestra of the Southern Military District performed compositions of the war years near the houses of veterans. Many of them not only listened, but sang along.

"When it was not possible to hold a military parade, to invite all the veterans, we decided that the military parade would come to the veterans themselves. And we held a mini-parade at every veterans' home. Everyone is grateful — all veterans. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to get out: some look out of the window, while others manage to approach the balcony. But it is very right that we are holding this action publicly. This action is not just for the veterans themselves. This is an action for the whole city," said Egor Klimashevsky, singer of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Southern Military District.

The military personnel of the district wished the veterans health, mental vigor and longevity, and also presented flowers and gifts. At the end, they marched in the courtyard in front of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

"We came from combat missions, we just received ammunition, we were supposed to conduct shooting. We went to rest and at about four o'clock in the morning they alerted us, they thought that Bandera gangs were attacking, but it turns out that everyone started shouting the war was over and then everyone grabbed and started shooting, too," WWII veteran Ivan Kalinichenko shared in an interview with the military personnel of the Southern Military District, telling about the Victory Day meeting.

Earlier, on April 4, in Cologne, participants of the Immortal Regiment rally marched in the uniforms of Soviet soldiers on the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event also featured wartime songs and a Victory Day rally.
