Bayrou estimated the cost of servicing France's public debt at €100 billion per year.

The cost of servicing France's public debt could reach €100 billion per year. This was announced on May 3 by French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou.
"Our country is on a terribly risky path, which in three or four years will lead us to a sad situation: debt servicing alone, that is, annual interest, can reach €100 billion," he said in an interview with the Journal du Dimanche newspaper.
As the French Prime minister pointed out, this amount is equal to the country's education and defense budgets. Bayrou called the economic situation in France a financial crisis that could escalate to historic proportions.
In the same interview, the Prime Minister spoke about plans to submit to a referendum a plan to reform the state and its expenses. So, according to him, in order to solve the problem of the crisis, it is necessary to develop and submit to a referendum reforms of public administration and treasury expenditures.
