The United States is closer to an agreement with one of the parties on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on May 4 by the American leader Donald Trump in an interview with NBC News.

He commented on the issue of the negotiation process between Moscow and Kiev, but did not specify with which side Washington had made progress.

"I believe that we are closer to an agreement with one of the parties, although I will not specify which one," he said.

At the same time, the American leader clarified that despite the difference in cooperation on conflict issues, he hopes for a peace agreement.

Prior to that, on April 29, Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was easier to deal with than Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. He clarified that he was trying to end the conflict, but Ukraine wanted more weapons and security guarantees from the United States.

On April 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that negotiations with the United States on the conflict in Ukraine were moving in the right direction. He recalled that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, among other things, expressed the opinion that during the negotiations Washington better understood Moscow's position, as well as the underlying causes of the conflict.
