On May 4, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called the agreement signed between Ukraine and the United States on rare earth metals a "deal with the devil."

"The agreement between Ukraine and the United States is a matter of the Ukrainian leadership <...> I just want to remind you that such agreements with the devil have already been signed. I'm not talking about the devil in the context of the United States, but about the concept of the devil," Fico said at a press conference.

The Prime Minister recalled that former Slovak Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda allowed Belgrade to be bombed because they were offered membership in the North Atlantic Alliance for this.

"So this agreement, which is signed between the United States and Ukraine, is exactly the same agreement that someone signs in order to achieve some goal. And now let Mr. Zelensky burst into rage. I know why he signed it. Mr. Zelensky has bought himself a conflict. Mr. Zelensky is very interested in its continuation," Fico summed up.

On May 1, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant announced that Washington and Kiev had signed an agreement on natural resources. In addition, the countries have concluded a deal on the creation of an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine, he added.

The next day, Marjorie Taylor Green, a member of the US House of Representatives, a Republican from Georgia, said that the US-Ukrainian deal on mineral resources could lead to a new armed conflict.
