The number of forest fires in Yakutia has increased to nine


The number of forest fires in the Verkhoyansk region has increased to nine, with a total area of more than 2.4 thousand hectares. This was announced on Sunday, May 4, by the press service of the Operational Headquarters of Yakutia.
"The fires are located 10 and 19 km from the village of Tomtor, the settlement is not in danger. At the moment, 37 employees of Avialesookhrana are involved in extinguishing them," the statement on the Operstaba Telegram channel says.
Nikolay Nikitin, head of the Department of Protection, Protection and Reproduction of Forests of the Ministry of Ecology, Nature Management and Forestry of Yakutia, will fly to the site to coordinate the work.
Earlier, on April 28, it was reported that investigators in Transbaikalia had opened three criminal cases on negligence that led to the development of forest fires, and had begun to clarify the causes of the fire, the extent of the damage caused and possible shortcomings of officials.
On April 7, the Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, declared an emergency regime in the region due to forest fires. According to him, almost all fires in forests since the beginning of the year have been caused by humans.
