U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth plans to pay his first working visit to Israel on May 12. This was reported on May 3 by the Axios portal, citing sources.

It is specified that this will be the first visit of the head of the Pentagon to the country since taking office.

"This is happening at a time when the US and Israeli governments disagree on the possibility of military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities, as well as in connection with the ongoing war in Gaza and the US military campaign in Yemen," the publication noted.

In Israel, the United States Secretary of Defense will meet with his counterpart Yisrael Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

As indicated in the publication, the visit is planned ahead of the trip of the President of the United States Donald Trump to the Middle East. After the meetings, the head of the Pentagon will join the American leader, traveling to Saudi Arabia.

The day before, Axios wrote that the United States and Israel were close to an agreement on resuming humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip without the control of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas. In order to resume deliveries, they came up with a mechanism that would avoid looting humanitarian aid.
