Billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX Starbase, located in Texas, could become a separate city. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 1.

Residents of a tiny community near the SpaceX rocket launch site are voting this week on whether to officially incorporate the area as a separate city, Starbase, Texas. The result is hardly in doubt: almost all eligible voters work for the company or live with those who work," the article says.

Currently, about 260 SpaceX employees live permanently in the vicinity of the launch pad. Their family members increase the total population of the area to almost 500 people. At the same time, another 3.1 thousand workers of the company come from the nearest large city of Brownsville.

"Since the company started building seriously in 2019, they've watched the area transform...> to the center for continuous construction and launch of rockets," the agency informs.

Starbase is also home to SpaceX headquarters. Musk, the founder of the corporation, owns an apartment building in the village with an area of 1.45 square miles (about 3.75 square kilometers).

Earlier, on April 1, Musk's SpaceX manned Crew Dragon spacecraft launched for an orbital flight over the poles of the Earth. The crew included Maltese businessman and researcher Chun Wang, the first female astronaut from Germany, Rabea Rogge, Australian researcher Eric Philips and Norwegian filmmaker Yannike Mikkelsen. On April 21, SpaceX's reusable Cargo Dragon spacecraft launched to the International Space Station (ISS).
