The modern lifestyle also contributes to vitamin D deficiency: we spend most of our time indoors, and even while relaxing on the beach, we actively use sunscreens that block UV rays, the expert noted. She pointed out that today about a billion people worldwide are deficient in vitamin D, especially the elderly.
Fedorova said that the greatest amount of vitamin D is found in fish, while in dairy products and eggs it is less, and it is absorbed worse. Regular consumption of fish dishes helps to maintain the necessary calciferol levels in children and adults. However, the doctor warned that an overabundance of vitamin is just as dangerous as its deficiency.
"I want to remind you that there is an overabundance of vitamin D and it does not lead to anything good, so you need to know the norm and check your vitamin levels. To do this, it is necessary to take special tests, on the basis of which the doctor will be able to prescribe vitamin D in supplements," the expert concluded.
