Many American experts have pointed out problems in the implementation of the U.S.-Ukraine agreement on mineral resources. On Saturday, May 3, The Washington Post (WP) newspaper wrote about this, citing experts.

"The actual supplies of titanium, graphite and lithium, which are important for advanced production, are in the long term," the experts said.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, Washington will be able to benefit from the supply of resources in at least 10 years.

Experts noted that Ukraine is not a "known source" of at least one of the 17 rare earth metals. In addition, they pointed to the reluctance of U.S. energy companies to operate on Ukrainian territory, as they have safer alternatives with developed infrastructure and lower investment risks.

"It is difficult for us to raise money for mineral exploration in places like the USA, Canada and Australia. Think about how much more difficult it will be to raise money for these early stages of activity in Ukraine," said Ashley Zumwalt-Forbes, a former head of one of the departments of the United States Department of Energy.

According to her, the owners of mining companies call the exploration of new deposits "the worst casino in the world."

On May 1, Scott Bessent announced that Washington and Kiev had signed an agreement on natural resources. In addition, the countries have concluded a deal on the creation of an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine, he added.

The next day, Marjorie Taylor Green, a member of the US House of Representatives, a Republican from Georgia, said that the US-Ukrainian deal on mineral resources could lead to a new armed conflict.

On May 3, the politician spoke out against Kiev's financial and military support against the background of the signing of the rare earth metals deal. As an alternative, she suggested developing the extraction of its own resources in the United States.
