Lavrov called for a settlement of differences between India and Pakistan


Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, together with his Indian counterpart Subramaniam Jaishankar, during telephone talks on Friday, May 2, discussed the aggravation of Indian-Pakistani relations amid the terrorist attack in Kashmir. This was reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on May 3.
"The foreign ministers discussed topical issues of Russian-Indian cooperation, as well as the aggravation of Indian-Pakistani relations after the terrorist attack near the city of Pahalgam," the statement said.
It is noted that during the discussions, Lavrov called for the settlement of differences between New Delhi and Islamabad through political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis based on the provisions of the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999.
In addition, the Foreign ministers discussed topical issues of Russian-Indian cooperation. At the same time, it is specified that representatives of the states have also drawn up a schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest level.
Relations between New Delhi and Islamabad worsened after the terrorist attack on April 22 near the Indian city of Pahalgam in the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 27 civilians. Both countries have closed the only common open land border and suspended visas. New Delhi has also suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.
On April 29, Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced India's intention to launch military attacks on the country within 24-36 hours. According to him, any act of aggression will be met with a decisive blow.
