Rospotrebnadzor commented on the situation with the detection of anthrax in Thailand

Rospotrebnadzor is monitoring the situation after the detection of anthrax in the province of Mukhdahan in Thailand, the threat of epidemic spread in Russia is excluded. The agency announced this on its website on May 3.

"Rospotrebnadzor specialists are constantly carrying out operational monitoring of the epidemiological situation in the world. <... > The disease is not transmitted from person to person. The threat of epidemic spread is excluded. The situation is under the control of Rospotrebnadzor," the statement said.

It is noted that two infected people participated in the slaughter of sick cattle and ate infected meat. At the same time, one person died as a result of the development of a septic form of the disease.

The ministry clarified that sanitary and quarantine control is carried out at all checkpoints to prevent the spread of the disease in Russia. In case of detection of signs of the disease, Rospotrebnadzor recommended to consult a doctor. Experts also advised against buying meat from private individuals at spontaneous markets.

In September last year, four residents of the Uygur district of the Almaty region in Kazakhstan were suspected of being infected with anthrax. It was noted that the patients had been in contact with infected farm animals. They participated in the slaughter of livestock without veterinary examination.
