The "best" conditions for resolving the conflict in Ukraine are no longer being considered, as is the country's membership in NATO. This was reported on May 3 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, there is also no alternative for Kiev to the security guarantees that membership in the alliance could provide it.

"Unfortunately, the best conditions for Ukraine are no longer being discussed: membership in NATO remains an impossible dream, and there is no ready substitute for the security guarantees that such membership could offer," the article says.

On April 25, US President Donald Trump said that Kiev was unlikely to ever join NATO, and noted that Ukraine's claims to membership in the bloc had caused a conflict with the Russian Federation. Earlier, on April 21, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow had positively assessed the US position on the impossibility of the Kiev regime joining the North Atlantic Alliance.

At the same time, the Secretary General of the alliance, Mark Rutte, said on April 4 that no one had promised Ukraine to accept it into NATO immediately after the end of the conflict. He noted that the alliance had previously only promised Kiev an irreversible path to membership in the organization.
