You may face a fine for growing certain types of plants on a garden plot. This was announced on May 3 by Igor Pozdnyakov, Director of the Consumer Protection Department of Roskachestvo.
"Particularly severe punishment is expected in cases where prohibited plants or fungi are found on a large or especially large garden plot. The figures vary and depend on the type of plant or fungus: for example, in the case of a cactus containing mescaline, the presence of plants in the amount of two or more on the site is recognized by large size," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
It is specified that the list of prohibited plants also includes banisteriopsis kaapi, harmala, blue lotus, cat, tricolor ipomoea, Hawaiian rose, mimosa hostilis and others. It is forbidden to grow species containing narcotic compounds from mushrooms.
Breeding of prohibited plants can result in a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, and compulsory labor of up to 480 hours. In some cases, imprisonment for up to two years is provided.
On March 2, Olga Leonova, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Finance at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, spoke about the consequences of growing prohibited plants. Both administrative and criminal liability is provided for this. It is specified that in the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation dated November 27, 2010 No. 934, as amended in 2024, prohibited species are prescribed.
