Statements by the United States and the European Union (EU) that they may not be mediators between Russia and Ukraine in resolving the conflict will not upset Russia. This was stated on May 3 by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.

"Well, it's free will. Hopefully, neither Washington nor Brussels expects that this news can unsettle Russia?" he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, the United States did not explicitly state this. They believe that Russia and Ukraine should negotiate with each other.

Earlier, on May 1, the State Department announced that the United States had abandoned the role of mediators in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Despite this, the United States will continue to take measures to resolve the conflict. However, now American officials will not "fly around the world at the first call" to participate in negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation as intermediaries.

On April 25, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that the EU countries are not seeking to end the conflict in Ukraine, despite the peaceful settlement initiatives of the United States. He noted that the Hungarian opposition in Brussels wants Budapest to contribute $125 million for military aid to Kiev.
