Michael Waltz, the former national security adviser to US President Donald Trump, was offered alternative options for a new job, including as ambassador to Saudi Arabia, before resigning from his post. This was reported on May 2 by CBS News, citing a source.

"On Thursday, the White House gave Mike Waltz a choice for his next job, as President Trump developed a strategy for his dismissal from the post of national security adviser just 100 days after the start of his administration," the material says.

After some thought, Waltz chose the position of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (UN).

On May 1, it was reported that Waltz resigned from the post of National Security Adviser to the president. It is indicated that Waltz's deputy Alex Wong and other employees of the National Security Council also left the administration. At the same time, the channel drew attention to the fact that on April 30, the adviser attended a cabinet meeting 100 days after Trump's inauguration.

On the same day, Trump announced that he would appoint his adviser Waltz to the post of Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations (UN). Rubio will temporarily serve as National Security Adviser.
