In Russia, collecting especially valuable mushrooms can lead to criminal liability and prison. Lawyer Alla Georgieva told about it on Saturday, May 3.

"A fine of 2.5 thousand to 5 thousand rubles may be imposed for collecting red book mushrooms. At the same time, the mushrooms themselves and the instrument with which they were collected may also be confiscated," the lawyer said in an interview with the Prime agency.

She added that under Russian law, picking particularly valuable mushrooms can be punishable by up to four years in prison or a fine of up to 1 million rubles.

Earlier, Izvestia reported that at least 114 people were poisoned by mushrooms in 2024, three of them died. Rospotrebnadzor confirmed 51 cases of poisoning with poisonous mushrooms.
