- The chemist explained the morbidity of residents of new buildings by the influence of building materials

Increased morbidity in new buildings may be associated with modern construction and finishing materials. This was announced on Saturday, May 3, by Andrey Dorokhov, Associate Professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry named after A. N. Reformatsky RTU MIREA.
"Many of these materials contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and xylene, which evaporate into the air within a few months after the repair is completed," the chemist told Gazeta.Ru».
According to him, these compounds irritate the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract, reduce local immunity and make the body more vulnerable. Some of them can gradually accumulate in the body, causing long-term damage.
Another risk factor is the increased humidity in new homes, which creates a favorable environment for mold growth.
Earlier, on April 19, Vasiliev told Izvestia that the construction of a turnkey private house in 2025 would cost Russians 40-55 thousand rubles per 1 sq. m. This is an average indicator, since the price depends, among other things, on the region, the materials used, and the workload of construction crews.
