US President Donald Trump sees that trade between the United States and Russia has declined to a level inconsistent with the two great powers. This statement was made on Saturday, May 3, by the first Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) Dmitry Polyansky.

"Our trade and economic relations have shrunk to a level absolutely inappropriate for two great powers," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to Polyansky, Trump is concerned about this issue. The head of state is making certain efforts to change the trade relations between the two countries for the better, the agency's interlocutor concluded.

The day before, Reuters learned that American officials had developed a new package of anti-Russian sanctions to increase pressure on Russia, but it was unclear whether the American leader would support this initiative. It is clarified that Trump has not yet decided whether he should apply these sanctions.

The day before, Bloomberg reported that 72 out of 100 members of the US Senate supported a bill proposing to impose duties at a rate of 500% on goods from countries that buy Russian hydrocarbons, fuel and uranium. In addition, the draft prohibits operations with the sovereign debt of the Russian Federation (purchase of federal loan bonds).
