After the resignation of National Security Adviser Michael Waltz, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will simultaneously combine the positions of Secretary of State and Assistant to the President for National Security. The Politico newspaper writes about this on May 2, citing sources.

"Marco Rubio is expected to serve as Secretary of State and National Security Adviser for at least six months," the article says.

It is claimed that a number of advisers to US President Donald Trump would like to make such a combination of positions permanent.

It is clarified that Rubio himself did not plan to hold two high-ranking positions at the same time, but agreed to do so at Trump's personal request.

On May 1, it was reported that Waltz left the post of National security adviser to the president. It is indicated that Waltz's deputy Alex Wong and other employees of the National Security Council also left the administration. At the same time, the channel noted that on April 30, the adviser attended a cabinet meeting 100 days after Trump's inauguration.

On the same day, Trump announced that he would appoint his adviser Waltz to the post of Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations (UN). Rubio will temporarily serve as National Security Adviser.
