The US-Ukrainian mineral resources deal could lead to a new armed conflict. This was announced on Friday, May 2, by Marjorie Taylor Green, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, a Republican from Georgia.

The politician recalled the war in Iraq, which was provoked by the United States because of the alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction by the republic, which eventually did not turn out to be there. She noted that the tragedy in the Middle East led the United States to a debt of $36 trillion, and not to enrich itself with Iraqi oil. Thus, Green called for learning a lesson from the Iraq War.

"So why on earth would we go to the occupation of Ukraine and spend countless future American taxpayer dollars on protecting and extracting its minerals, as well as potentially putting American lives at risk and starting a future war?" the Republican wrote on the social network X.

Green also wondered why Washington couldn't start mining its own minerals.

On the eve of May 1, The New York Times (NYT) newspaper wrote that rare earth resources would not bring profit immediately. According to the authors of the article, as a result, it may turn out that the profit from the agreement for the United States will not be as high as President Donald Trump expected.

On the same day, United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Washington and Kiev had signed an agreement on natural resources. In addition, the countries have concluded a deal on the creation of an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine, he added.
