When providing first aid, speed, clarity and timeliness of actions are crucial. However, in emergency situations, especially during the holidays, people often panic, which often leads to serious mistakes. This was announced on Saturday, May 3, by Igor Pushkarev, a pediatrician and expert at the European Medical Center (EMC) School of First Aid, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

According to the doctor, trying to help in a dangerous situation can be one of these mistakes. If the situation poses a threat to the rescuer, specialists should be called immediately, but do not approach the scene on their own, the expert warned.

A dangerous action in an attempt to rescue is to move the victim with a possible spinal injury, the source said. As the specialist pointed out, such damage cannot be excluded from falls from heights, accidents or horseback riding. In this case, it is strictly forbidden to move or lift a person. Acceptable actions: calling the medics, checking consciousness and breathing, stopping the bleeding, Pushkarev explained.

Another common mistake that the doctor mentioned was the initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without clear indications. He clarified that CPR is necessary only in the absence of consciousness and independent breathing, and unjustified resuscitation measures can aggravate the victim's condition and cause additional harm.

The expert also drew attention to the actions in case of head injury.

"With such injuries, a person often feels normal, but the injuries themselves look minor, and the bleeding may not seem severe. However, even with the smallest wounds located on the scalp, bleeding can be very abundant (these are the features of the blood supply to the tissues of the head). In addition, after a few hours, a person's condition can deteriorate significantly," Pushkarev explained.

In this regard, in case of any head injuries, especially during active recreation, it is necessary to urgently seek medical help.

And the last mistake is underestimating the severity of minor injuries. The expert noted that a fracture may be hidden behind a bruise, and insufficient treatment of abrasions can lead to infection. At the same time, according to him, puncture wounds require special attention — despite small external manifestations, they can be accompanied by deep contamination and require thorough disinfection. The doctor urged to remember that even a seemingly insignificant injury can be dangerous.

Earlier, on May 1, cognitive behavioral psychologist, Candidate of Psychological Sciences Elena Korbmacher told Izvestia that a qualified psychologist never makes any diagnoses, does not recommend or cancel taking medications. According to her, there are situations when poor emotional well-being after a visit to a psychologist is due to the unprofessional actions of the latter: the use of incorrect interventions, the demonstration of an inadequate level of empathy (excessive or insufficient), the imposition of their assessments and emotions.
