The administration of US President Donald Trump plans to carry out large-scale staff reductions in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and other similar agencies. This was reported on May 2 by The Washington Post (WP).

"The Trump administration plans to significantly reduce staff at the CIA and other major US intelligence agencies, which will lead to a reduction in the most important government national security agencies," the newspaper informs, citing anonymous sources.

The day before, representatives of the presidential administration informed American lawmakers on Capitol Hill of their intention to reduce the number of the CIA by 1.2 thousand people over several years. Intelligence officers from the US National Security Agency also came under threat of dismissal.

"It is unclear which parts of the intelligence agency will be affected the most. The reduction is taking place even though CIA Director John Ratcliffe has promised to direct more agency resources to China and cartels smuggling fentanyl and other synthetic drugs into the United States," the article says.

It is specified that staff reductions will partially take place due to a decrease in the rate of hiring new employees. At the same time, at least "several hundred" of these 1.2 thousand people have already chosen the option of early retirement.

On April 15, the WP newspaper reported that more than 22,000 employees of the US tax service agreed to resign at Trump's request. Employees who accept the deal will be placed on paid administrative leave until September, and then will leave their federal positions.

On March 29, the media reported on the dismissals of Yale and Harvard employees under pressure from Trump. Higher education institutions are forced to say goodbye to employees because of the government's demand to combat anti-Semitism. Otherwise, they are threatened with being deprived of federal funding. Also earlier, the Harvard School of Public Health suspended its partnership with Birzeit University in the West Bank.
